Adventure Fishing

Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.

Researchers have found well over 400 species of fish in the Rupununi. This high species richness results in part from the bio-geographical links between the Amazon and Essequibo drainage systems. In times of high water, levels during the annual rainy season (May-September) the Essequibo and Rupununi are linked to the Amazon drainage basin via a watershed portal. This in turn makes the Rupununi home to a wide variety of aquatic species which have crossed over from the Amazon, including Arapaima, Arawana, Black Caiman, Victoria Amazonica Lilies, and Giant River Turtles.
